Hunting in Northwest Ontario With Timber Edge Camps

The fall season is an excellent time of the year to roam the hundreds of miles of logging roads in the area for ruffed and spruce grouse. Waterfowl abound in many bays and small lakes in the area.

We also offer baited fall bear hunts in oune of our 3 bear management areas. We place our baits to take advantage of our fall blueberry crop. The baiting starts in May and continues throughout the summer for our fall hunts.

We drive our hunters to their stands and bait while they are getting ready in their tree-stands or ground blinds. We return to pickup our hunters when they shot a bear or at the end of the day.

In 13 years of bear hunting the average weekly bear sightings per hunters is 7 and as high as 16. In the past five seasons bears averaged 238# dressed (293# live) and 8.5 years old. We had one hunter in 13 years (2011) that did not shoot a bear. He saw nine but chose not to shoot. He hunted with us in 2010 and shot a 344# bear the first night, a wolf the third and wanted a larger bear.

In 2012 we had 14 hunters, 13 archery and 1 shotgun. Twelve took bears home and two were not able to find theirs. We harvested 10 males and 2 females averaging 261#.

We stress shooting large male bears with a 300# bear easily attainable.

Bears harvested range from all black to chocolate and cinnamon. White V's, stars and crests on bears chests are also very common.

We take one group of hunters per week with a total of 14 hunters per season. All shots range from 17-25 yards.

We strive to make every hunt enjoyable and successful.
